Major Stages in the Implementation of an Environmental Management System

Preparation

  • approval of the project by management

  • initial alignment with existing legislation
  • initial consideration of relevant procedures, resources, auxiliary materials and fuels as well as energy flows
  • consideration of existing impacts on the environment as well as determination of potential risks
  • consideration of existing measures and means of environmental protection
  • consideration of non-conformities with legal requirements within the organizational structure
  • if necessary, determination of further relevant information and documents regarding the environment

Evaluation

  • rough analysis of the data with the aim of defining/detailing further steps
  • compilation of a profile describing the current and ideal situations (analysis of existing weaknesses)
  • evaluation of the impact on the environment (e.g. ABC analysis and/or by way of verbal argumentation)
  • evaluation of environmental protection measures
